Psytrance and Goa

Postby Laurie » Sun Jul 17, 2011 12:36 am

In a couple weeks from now, I'm going to be in a field in Hungary dancing my tits off to psychedelic electronica. I'll be at 'OZORA', a 24/7 music festival lasting for 6 days which my brother discovered due to its strong association with a lot of the downtempo artists we've been passionate about in the past year or so (such as Solar Fields, which I've played on the MP podcast before). In preparation, I've been reading up and listening to a lot of psytrance and goa trance as they'll be the main styles played in the main stage of the festival, and I must say... a lot of the tracks I've come across are bloody good.

Does anyone else here listen to any Goa/psytrance?

This is one of the most revered tracks in Goa trance (judging from various forums and sites) and deservedly so. Just ignore the hippie bullshit talk at the start ;)

And here's a psytrance track which is a little darker and heavier (and also includes breakbeats).

Give them a listen. Especially if you like the TB-303.

I tried getting into goa and psy, but really, a lot of it was too deep for me.

Give this one a try. Very very melodical and euphoric (once it gets going around 4 minutes in):

Excellent, yeah the videos made showing clips from past years really make the festival seem exciting with a great atmosphere. Considering how close you live to the area, why haven't you been Ozora before?

Awesome, are there any artists in particular you've taken a liking to?

[edit] I can see now that Emeth is influenced by psytrance! I still love what you did with that track, it's probably my favourite from all the Baltars Dream/Thermonuclearity output. I knew so little about the genre back when you entered it into the MP competition that I never considered the relation :)

Cause i hate the goddamned hippies. :)

Im not into Goa at all, but the vibe should be great.
It might get rather hot compared to England.

There's even a 'magic garden' at the festival

Yeah I'm going to try ignore all the spiritual bullshit I think, or just laugh about it to myself at least. I'm used to going to raves where most of the audience are aggressive pricks though, so the positive atmosphere should be a nice change.

And yeah, there's a lot of hyped goa which I'm not such a fan of either (it can get really repetitive and generic), but tracks like those I've posted on here are right down my street.
