Online collaborations !

Postby shperaclu » Mon Aug 29, 2011 7:55 pm

So as I previously spammed half this forum, I am now making an album.

And on this album, there are a few featured artists from all over the world.
Some of them are quite receptive and well-minded, a true joy to work with.

HOWEVER,
Some of them are a total pain, they reply e-mails very late, reply once to say
"FUCK YEAH LET'S DO THIS" and never reply back.

I just got turned down by a singer after she put me through this arduous "TESTING" phase.
I mean she said here's an acapella, do something with it to see what'cha got.
I did. She liked. She said let's do it.
And now she said she won't do it. All of these e-mails spaced out by one or two weeks.

Which really put a dent in my schedule, because I could have looked for somebody else in the meantime.
Goddamn it !

Any other horror stories ?

Yeah, always the vocalists lol

Plenty of tracks left as instrumentals due to unreliable vocalists
Collaborating is a tough job to do with some folks.
As of matter of fact, you were my first real and successful collaboration.

Scrapped material that had my old gf's voice on it.
Which is a shame, cuz it filled out the rest of the track nicely.
But we ended badly and I hit the delete key.

Had a few vocalists come and go who were suppose to be a part of "Neorev."
One was all talk... and went horribly when we actually started recording.
The other had an amazing voice, but would just disappear for periods of time.

I did a couple of vocal tracks myself. People I showed them too liked them. but I was always so self-conscious.
I never really developed them fully.

Worked with some guitarist. They were all into at first, but when it came to really getting it recorded, they flaked out.

I always think collaborations are a great idea but I have no idea how they work. To me, I write a track from start to finish on my own. Sharing elements or leaving parts open for someone else is hard for me to consider.

Dunno why, perhaps it's a mentality that can be overcome by actually trying it.

I've been luckier than you guys then I think. I've worked with HV quite alot online in the past and still to this day, and had some pretty awesome results. And in real life I've worked with a lot of vocalists & guitarists and stuff, never really had any flake outs. I'm lucky that Matt and myself are able to work together far easier than with others... We both get each other... And my wife is a vocalist by trade =D
This is my fucking signature.

i've been working with mr. Grant Lloyd in the past, we always seemed to get well. Also, there's a dude on my album from the US that really understands what needs to be done and is prompt.

NR also gets it right, from what we've done the last week. Too bad you don't use FL Studio anymore man! We could have swapped zips LIKE A BOSS

I guess what really makes me cringe is people who forget or are late. I'm a busy man too, but I respect the other's schedule! :)
