Mastering an EP

Postby Studio Star » Thu Jun 11, 2009 6:36 pm

Hi y´all !

I´m currently producing a bands EP with four tracks on it and I´m in the final stages of mixing. But I´m positioned in a very small room mixing it with speakers that I´m not quite used to yet. So for those who have the time... take a listen to these four tracks and let me know how they sound in your speakers. To much treble?... to much bass?... to muddy?... to sharp?... something that sounds unacceptable in any of the tracks... thanx !

I've got M-Audio AV40's
Now, this is NOT the type of music I listen to, but I do find the tracks to be at least enjoyable

I feel there is possibly an excessive amount of reverb.. the reverb sometimes makes the lyrics a bit hard to understand because of a bit of reverb overlapping the next lyric.

The drums and bass sound very good to me.
The guitars sound good except a bit overpowering at times.. or rather I'd say the vocals need to be more pronounced. The separation between all the elements is great with headphones, but on my speakers it's sometimes hard to pick out the different guitars, they kind of meld together.

It definitely sounds really good though. I find it much better than a lot of Indie CDs that I've randomly acquired

seems to be a little rich on bass (100Hz - 200Hz)... and also a bit nasal, around 3000Hz... but that´s corrected now I think... got damn it´s hard to mix in referencemonitors if you´re not used to it. I allways overdo the bass.
